Spiritual Awareness: Are the benefits real?
Spiritual awareness is an opportunity to reduce our unnecessary suffering when we are in resistance to “what is.” When we can see and experience our life circumstances from a greater state of consciousness, we are afforded some important opportunities that move us forward in living an aligned life and running an aligned business.
It’s an empowering day (even if slightly annoying) when we realize that we are often the cause of our own suffering. Spiritual awareness allows us to connect with the fact that if it’s here, it must be in service to us in some way. Expanding our spiritual awareness is key to raising our vibrational frequency.
Becoming more spiritually aware provides a foundation for a stronger spiritual connection. From that awareness we open up to a second opportunity: the chance to use whatever we are going through to support us in our Soul’s evolution and thereby bring us closer to Source. The closer we get to Source the higher our vibrational state.
It all sounds good conceptually but how do we bring the real benefits of spiritual awareness into our everyday life?
What is Spiritual Awareness
What is spiritual awareness as it applies to modern living is the place to start a further exploration. Let’s break it down and consider each component. Spiritual + awareness. Then we’ll put them together.
When we are looking to understand spiritual awareness, the spiritual component comes first. In this instance, the term spiritual does not refer to religion or dogma. For our purposes we’ll define spiritual as the non-physical or non-material parts of our human experience. Said another way, the meaning of spiritual is to see beyond the material into the mystical.
The spiritual piece of this puzzle signifies embracing a greater connection beyond what can be seen. Both within us and between us. It honors and credits that there is often something greater at work in our lives than meets the eye. Many of us feel that way, but how does it change the way we live day to day? This is where we need the second piece of the puzzle.
The second component to our exploration of “what is spiritual awareness?” is awareness on its own. There is a strictly cognitive version of awareness that’s based in facts and figures but for our purposes we’ll expand that into the other realms of perception and purpose. This includes those things you know without being able to explain how you know them as well as the meaning – inherent and applied – we assign to our life experiences.
Remaining in a state of awareness (different from hypervigilance which is more like a state of alert) opens up our field of vision and affords us the opportunity to witness the Divine Design below the surface of our world. As we expand our capacity to sense what’s happening in the energetic field around us, our vibrational frequency expands right along with.
While many identify as being spiritual, that can often end up being limited to the concepts and habituated ways we practice our spirituality. To be spiritually aware is to apply our spirituality through our thoughts, perceptions and perspectives.
When we are truly applying and living into a commitment to what is spiritual awareness we operate from a broader spiritual perspective. We look and see the bigger picture beyond our five senses from the higher level of Soul. This allows us to understand the matters of the world from a higher plane.
Through spiritual awareness we become aware of and stay present to our spiritual nature (our true self) and the spiritual nature of the universe – including our place in it.
What Does Spiritual Awareness Mean (in everyday life)
As we prepare to practice what we’ve learned, let’s review what does spiritual awareness mean in our everyday life by looking at some examples. How many times in your day do we end up a little frustrated or a lot angry? What was it that caused this reaction?
While the details can vary widely, when we dig down underneath the specifics we’ll generally always find that resistance to “what is” we spoke about earlier. As in, “that person shouldn’t have cut me off in traffic” or “this interruption has now changed the course of my day” or “I can’t believe how this person is behaving.” What do you notice about each of these examples?
In every scenario where you are offended, frustrated or mad, it’s likely the assessment of the situation is myopic and one sided. Meaning, the judgements we make tend to be with a very narrow focus seen from the level of personality rather than Soul. Furthermore, not taking into account what might be going on for the other party or what’s happening in the bigger scheme of things.
Reminder, when we consider what does spiritual awareness mean we are practicing viewing our life and the people in it from a higher perspective. Understanding that this horizontal human plane of existence is only part of the story. When we combine compassion and empathy for the human along with reverence and honor for the Soul’s journey, lessons and evolution, we begin to integrate full spiritual awareness into our everyday life.
Does that mean we are going to practice spiritual awareness perfectly in every moment? Certainly not. Here at Divine Navigation one of our mottos is “consistency not constancy.” Setting ourselves up with the expectation to get it “right” all the time is just that – a set up. Therefore, any practice of spiritual awareness begins with grace. For ourselves and others.
The next time you start to sense conflict rising pause; center yourself; and (without leaving your body) explore the situation from a different perspective. First from the vantage point of the other individual involved. (It’s remarkable how many conflicts could be if we stopped expecting others to think, feel and behave the way that we would.) Then from a higher plane perspective. Imagine looking down on the scenario as a neutral third party. Notice what you notice. From the awareness you gain, how would you now approach resolving the conflict? Does a conflict still exist even?
While these may seem like simplistic examples, they’ll help you recognize the myriad of opportunities life offers us to practice spiritual awareness.
Benefits of Spiritual Awareness
Again, it all sounds great in theory. And, it might also sound like a lot of work. Especially when mired in the intractability of our personality, we might wonder why we have to be the ones to take the high road.
When we are clear on the benefits of spiritual awareness we can easily see how the effort we choose to put toward being more spiritually aware will pay us back a thousand times over. Just of few of the benefits of spiritual awareness include:
- Bigger picture vision and broader perspective: When we look only at the surface of things we miss most of what’s happening. This can be illustrated by selecting a circumstance in your life that at the time you perceived as being the end of the world. However, now you can see it actually redirected or course corrected you. In the end it was there to serve you and was exactly what needed to happen for your greater good. Spiritual awareness allows us to “zoom out” to a larger field of vision over a longer period of time and supports us in reaching our potential as a master manifestor.
- Deeper connection with ourselves and others: The reality we live in supplies us with a plethora of “bait” to pull us out of ourselves into the world “out there.” When we live disconnected from ourselves in this way it equates to trying to drive your car from under the hood of the car rather than behind the steering wheel. Spiritual awareness puts us back in the driver’s seat of our lives. The more deeply connected we are with ourselves, the more deeply we can connect with others from a place of authenticity.
- Greater empathy and understanding: Due to the higher level thinning and deeper connection with ourselves and others it creates, practicing spiritual awareness affords us a greater level of empathy and understanding to the experiences of those around us and the world at large. Imagine the difference in the choices we might make as a collective were this level of compassion to light our way.
- Meaning and purpose to life’s challenges: Rather than seeing ourselves at the effect of life’s circumstances, spiritual awareness allows us to give purpose and meaning to what we’ve been through. Once again, imagine if everything that we’ve judged as negative in our lives was somehow there to activate us into our Soul calling or Soul Purpose. When viewed from the perspective of spiritual awareness, chances are very good you’ll find this to be true.
- Stronger Intuition: It could almost be said that spiritual awareness and intuition are synonymous. One begets the other. The more we operate at higher vibrational frequencies the more we become aware of. Intuition, often described as the sixth sense, could be described as our “other awareness.” Where does that other awareness come from? Spiritual awareness of course! There is so much of our life that is hidden just out of view. Intuition helps us make the most of the seen and unseen when making decisions in and for our lives.
- Fulfillment and personal satisfaction: As they say, “where do we go from here?” Ironically, from the level of personality we can easily end up chasing after things that do not ultimately bring us fulfillment or satisfaction. Armed with a more empowering assignment of meaning and using our strengthened intuition, we are more likely to be led to pursue things that are more in alignment with our Soul.
- Peace and Well-being: Whether we are conscious of it or not, what we all crave is the peace and well-being of that spiritual awareness offers when we are viewing life from a higher plane, deeply connected to ourselves and others from a place of empathy and understanding that gives new meaning to life, guided by our intuition to great fulfillment and satisfaction. The perfect recipe for peace and well-being.
As this list makes clear there are many benefits of spiritual awareness. Although, some may wonder if it’s really a blessing – or a curse? While some believe spiritual awareness is an irrefutable blessing, there are plenty others who experience it more as a curse. Some things you might prefer not to know – at least on the surface. This can inevitably lead to the desire to shut off or block our spiritual awareness. We implore you to resist that urge.
The world we were meant to live in will only become possible when more of us commit to living in spiritual awareness and let our Souls lead the way.
